This painting was done from life. My reference was a vase of cream roses that was left over from my solo exhibition at the Foyer in Durban. I started off by painting the canvas in a dark, warm black – a colour that reminded me of my Grandmother’s antique dining chairs and therefore set the tone for this painting.
